Letter to the Editor: Jarvin a "rare heart"

To the editor:

The streets will be a bit empty with the passing of a much beloved member of our community. Jarvin Whitesell, 47, died Thursday, January 16, of natural causes. His cheerful, positive presence will be sorely missed. We have known Jarvin since 1981 when he came to us as a foster child at the age of 15. Jarvin’s ageless and indomitable spirit found joy in life, in many friendships, in silliness, and in the support of his community. He was a vital part of a network of smaller communities in The Dalles including Special Olympics swim team and The Dalles Senior Center where he tended the garden.

Jarvin had a rare purity of heart and although it left him vulnerable at times, he was incapable of malice and seemed always to choose the sunny side of the street.

A special fund has been established at US Bank (401 Washington) for donations to help with funeral expenses.

A Celebration of Life and potluck will be held at Life In Christ Center, 3095 Cherry Heights Rd. in the Dalles on Saturday, January 25, at 2:00 PM.
