Hood River stormed back from a late deficit with seven runs in the top of the ninth inning and posted the final three outs to finalize a 15-13 comeback victory over The Fort Dalles ‘A’ Hustlers in nine innings Tuesday afternoon in American Legion baseball action at Quinton Street Ballpark in The Dalles.
In that final frame, the visiting Oilers were able to take advantage of a handful of Hustlers errors to placate the ninth-inning surge.
Even in defeat, the Hustlers rattled off 17 hits, as solid plate appearances from Kellen Mathisen, Cash Mathewson and Eli Holeman.
Mathisen went 4 for 4, Mathewson added two hits and Holeman notched a 2 for 4 split to pace the offense.
The Hustlers (5-8 overall) look to get back on the winning track this weekend for the always tough Pendleton Baseball Tournament.
On Friday, the Hustlers hit the field against Pendleton and a team from Utah.
At 2:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon, the Hustlers take on Southridge.
