Chili event great
To the editor:
On behalf of all the families we have cared for and those who will come into our care in the future, we want to thank Maggie and Johna at Columbia Gorge Insurance for all the hard work they exerted last Friday on behalf of Providence Hospice of the Gorge Children’s Grief Groups.
Having Tim Schectel facilitate and donate the use of The Mint made accommodating the steady flow of chili tasters easy and relaxed.
We enjoyed the music and appreciated Damon emceeing.
It was fascinating to hear tell of the origins of recipes and witness the creativity of the cooks!
The event’s proceeds will go towards art supplies, snacks, and transportation costs for our families who attend the Groups throughout each school year.
Our Grief Groups (ages 5-18) are open ended, and are available to all children who have experienced the death of a sibling or parent. Families have attended from Klickitat, Goldendale, Wasco, The Dalles, Hood River, Parkdale, North Bonneville, and Cascade Locks. To be able to provide trained staff and a safe place for a child to walk the difficult path of grief with others, who have lost a loved one is a tremendous gift to the community.
Benefit events like the Chili Cook-Off connect and strengthen our community when we reach out to others with compassion and generosity to support our most vulnerable members in their grieving process.
