Chronicle wins seven at state news event

The Dalles Chronicle captured seven news awards at the Oregon Newspaper Publishers Association annual conference in Salem Friday, including a first place in best sports story for “Honoring ‘the best of them all’,” about the late Al Morrison’s role in the sports community by Ray Rodriguez.

“I just thought it was an inspiring to write about a gentlemen the community had such high praise for,” Rodriguez said. “I was just happy to be a part of it all.”

The Chronicle staff also captured a second place award for best overall website and a third place for best special section for Pathways to Health.

Mark Gibson captured two third-place awards: best web project for “History Lives” and best multimedia element for “Remembering the Rain.”

Kathy Ursprung also won a pair of third-place awards including best page one design for “How much does snooping pay?” and best lifestyle coverage for “Woven Bonds.”
