Rodeo golf tourney a success

Many of the top names were on display last Friday for the Fort Dalles Rodeo Golf Tournament on a sunny afternoon at The Dalles Country Club.

After 18 holes and some clutch chip shots, level putts and deep drives, the team of Manny Patel, Craig Colquitt, Mike Hage, Jason Miller and Tyler Austin swept past the golf field with the best low gross score.

While that group came through with flying colors in the gross classification, the standout group highlighted by top linkster Ryan Vassar, chalked up top honors on the low net side.

Supporting the efforts of Vassar were Jeff Renard, Chris Cady, Skyler Schacht and Dave Wallace.

Just finishing behind the top net team was Kevin Hay, Doug Hamada, Keith Hay, Bob Palmer and Tom Biddle matched strokes for second place in the net category.

Event coordinator Michelle Dollarhide was quick to commend Kent Smith and Bob Sproule for putting together a top-notch event.

“This charity tournament wouldn't happen without Kent’s hard work and dedication,” Dollarhide said.

“We also appreciate the use of The Dalles Country Club and are grateful to Bob Sproule for hosting the tournament.”

Smith has been putting on this tournament for more than 10 years now.

All of the proceeds raised through entry fees, raffles and food go towards the Fort Dalles Rodeo Cowboy Fund.

The money is used to help injured cowboys cover the cost of medical bills, with 18 teams playing in the tournament this year.

“The rodeo association greatly appreciates Kent and all of his efforts year after year with this event,” Dollarhide added. “Our cowboy hats are off to him.”
