KODL 99.1 FM will host its first Hometown Hero Celebration Friday, July 4, in downtown The Dalles.

A full day of family fun is planned between First and Second streets in front of the Veterans Service Center from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Activities include music from Frank and April, and Martin and friends; The Columbia Gorge Belly Dancers; chicken barbeque, bouncy houses, henna tattoos and more.

Several downtown businesses will honor home town heroes for their service and dedication with awards and gifts at the 2 p.m. award ceremony.

Prizes will also be awarded to winners of the treasure hunt. Participating merchants on Second Street have free treasure maps available now.

Look for the Hometown Hero Celebration posters in the windows of merchants and get free treasure maps while supplies last. Prizes include a diamond ring and earrings from Kay Jewelers, a Blown Glass Fish from Nichols Art Studio and much more.
