Wasco County Farm Bureau hosts annual pancake feed

The Wasco County Farm Bureau’s 70th annual pancake feed and Farm City Appreciation Day is set for Thursday, March 6 at 6:30 p.m. at the St. Peter’s Parish Hall, 1111 Cherry Heights Rd. in The Dalles.

The event will feature door prizes for adults and children and a historical display on the Wasco County Farm Bureau. A $4 donation for the meal at the door is requested. Children under 12 are free.

Guest speaker will be Matthew Klebes, coordinator of The Dalles Main Street. Klebes was born in New Mexico and raised in New Hampshire. He has a bachelor’s degree in political science and a master’s degree in public policy and management, where he focused on community and downtown revitalization.

Virgil Kelly was instrumental in organizing the original Wasco County Farm Bureau in the 1940s. Following a fading out of activities, Earl Meeker reorganized the county. On Nov. 16, 1953, Clifford Wright, state Farm Bureau organizer made a motion to organize the farm Bureau in Wasco County. North and south Wasco County Farm Bureaus were formed in 1955. The two organizations merged in October 1967.
