Organizers of the regional Oregon Battle of the Books tournament, held at The Dalles Middle School on Saturday, March 15, say the competition’s results are officially in.
Area students from Hood River, Sherman, and Wasco counties participated in the regional event, each competing for a chance to progress to the next level.
In the third to fifth grade division, Mosier Community School took the lead, with Colonel Wright Elementary School claiming second. The sixth to eighth grade division finals pitted Mosier Middle School against Wy’east Middle School, with Mosier again emerging victorious. Lastly, in the ninth to twelfth grade division, South Wasco County High School bested The Dalles High School for the win.
OBOB Regional Manager Jim Tindall said, “The teams were very well coached,” and that “Students came well read and with great sportsmanship, and all schools were supported with a cheering section.”
Organizers of the event issued a public “thank you” to the dozens of volunteers that came together to make the event a success, with particular attention paid to The Dalles chapter of Rotary and Klindt’s Booksellers for their continued committment to OBOB.
