The schedule makers did not take it easy on The Dalles girl’s tennis team with a tough road matchup versus highly-regarded Ridgeview.
In eight matches, the Ravens notched straight-set winners to come away for an 8-0 victory Tuesday in Redmond
“It was a difficult first match. Other than the district tournament this was most likely the toughest and deepest team we will face all season,” said TD coach Debby Jones. “We lost 8-0, but it was a great learning experience.”
On the singles side, No. 1 athlete, Anna Miller, lost 7-5, 6-2 to Caitlin Carr, and Robin Pashek dropped her match 6-0, 6-2.
MJ Murillo lost 6-1, 6-4 in her No. 3 singles match, and Leslie Luna-Lopez had a tough go of it at No. 4 in a setback versus Savannah King.
“Anna Miller is our loan varsity junior and continues to lead the way at No. 1 singles,” Jones said. “Anna played a great first set and showed some of the consistency that has made her a tough competitor. I was also pleased with the improved second set play of MJ Murillo.”
All four doubles teams came out on the losing end of the scoreboard, as the duo of Kiana Pielle and Johanna Wilson lost their No. 1 match.
Jones has 26 girls out and she said they have quickly began to bond as a complete program. With those numbers, Jones said the athletes will be pushing each other for 12 varsity spots.
“This an extremely young team, but at the same time, I believe they are the strongest team I’ve had the privilege of coaching over the past three years,” Jones added. “I believe this is the year we turn the corner. They have high expectations for themselves and we intend to see those reached by the end of the season.”
TD hosts Reynolds at 4 p.m. on Thursday.
