Letter to the Editor: Doll furniture needed

— Hospital houses

To the editor:

I work and live in The Dalles. I enjoy a number of hobbies, the company of my friends and family and the love of my pets.

But my number one hobby is also a charitable project. It is of benefit to children who may be in the hospital for an extended period.

I love to build doll houses. Then, when they are painted, wallpapered, carpeted (or have flooring), and furnished, they are delivered to the hospital.

They are then placed in a child’s room, so they have something to occupy them, other than dwelling on why they are there. Dollhouses will provide fun, enjoyment and therapy. When a child is ready to go home he or she and their parents have the option to take a dollhouse home with them.

One went home with a young girl from Goldendale. I just delivered a second one to the hospital. I have only one more dollhouse left to build and not enough furniture to furnish it. I need help. I am on a limited budget.

That’s why I’m writing this letter. I’m asking local businesses and citizens of The Dalles to help me keep my little charitable project going.

As it is, I’ll be finished when I deliver this dollhouse next year. I want to keep this going for as long as I can. I need dollhouse kits to build, dollhouses needing repair, miniature furniture (especially bathroom and kitchen), miniature accessories, etc.

Of course, money to buy these things is always acceptable, too.

I want to bring a small amount of joy to sick children. Can you please help me? For more information, please contact me at this address or phone number:
