Travis Church returned to The Dalles Saturday after nearly a week on the missing list, as reported that day on www.thedalleschronicle.com.
“We have been able to clear the missing persons case,” said Chief Jay Waterbury of The Dalles police.
Waterbury said Church, 23, was with his parents today. Police said Monday that Church simply told them he had wanted to get out of town.
A reserve The Dalles police officer and emergency dispatcher, Church was believed to have gone missing sometime after his parents saw him March 14.
Law officers combed the backwoods over the weekend thinking Church had been driving his Jeep and had an accident.
A search of his residence revealed that he had left his cell phone behind, but taken some of his gun collection.
Church had been scheduled during the week for appointments for testing and an interview in anticipation of joining The Dalles Police Department full time, but did not appear at those appointments.
Later in the week, bank records helped investigators learn that Church had withdrawn money from an ATM in Boise.
Waterbury didn't know what Church was doing while he was away. “Hopefully, we'll have a conversation next week. Right now, we don't know.”
