To the editor:
I encourage voters to cast their ballot for the re-election of Rod Runyon as Wasco County Commissioner. Through my volunteer work with veterans, I have witnessed firsthand his commitment to those who have worn the cloth of our Nation. In addition to competently fulfilling his many other responsibilities as County Commissioner, Rod has worked to further the awareness of issues relating to veterans and to ensure that services are available locally to assist them.
President Abraham Lincoln said, “A Nation that does not honor its veterans will not long endure.” Wasco County is gaining a reputation for recognizing and honoring our military active duty and veterans—not just in talk, but in action. Through the hard work of many, we now have the Oregon Veterans Home, the VA Clinic, the new state-of-the-art National Guard Readiness Center, the convenient and highly visible County Veterans Service Office, and the inspiring monuments on Kelly Viewpoint. Experience and strong leadership were essential in these efforts. Let’s keep the momentum going.
Rod walks his talk. Whether serving as vice chair of the Association of Oregon Counties Veterans Committee, standing a flag line with the Patriot Guard Riders, or even volunteering his time at the VSO, his dedication is evident. We are fortunate to have such an excellent advocate. Please join me in voting to keep Rod Runyon in office for another term.
