Movie Night

Celebrate Recovery is having a free movie night out tonight, Friday, May 9, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Covenant Christian Church, 2630 E. 18th St., in The Dalles. The movie is “Home Run: Freedom is Possible.” Childcare is available through the Parents Night Out ministry, with a suggested $5 donation.

Fellowship of Churches

The May 27 monthly forum of the Fellowship of Churches features guest speaker Rashed Al-Qarra, who will speak on the similarities and differences between Islam and Christianity. The event is at 5 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 305 E. 11th St. Al-Qarra is a student from Amman, Jordan, and he previously lived 13 years in Saudi Arabia. He plans to attend college in the fall and study medicine. His father is an electrical engineer and his stay-at-home mom has a degree in chemistry.

Gateway Presbyterian

Senior Pastor Dr. Tom Pipkin will give the sermon “Mother Hen” at the 8:30 a.m. traditional and 11 a.m. contemporary services. Classes for children, youth and adults are offered from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. On Wednesday, youth group and women’s study start at 6 p.m. and men’s study starts at 6:30 p.m. On Thursday, men’s Bible study is at 6:30 a.m., and ACTS After School will meet.

First Christian Church

First Christian is focusing on “The Year of the Young Family” and its regular schedule of Sunday school classes, as noted on its website

Wednesday night Youth Group meets at 7 p.m. for sixth grade through high school. Weekend services include an informal potluck and message on Friday nights at 7 p.m., a Saturday Night Live Service at 6 p.m., and Sunday worship at 10:30 a.m.
