To the editor:
What a wonderful concert I attended last Sunday afternoon as the The Gorge Winds sponsored their annual Spring Concert at the Civic Auditorium. The Dalles is so fortunate to have such a wonderful asset in our community.
For the past ten years we have regularly traveled from Fossil to The Dalles to experience these superb concerts. This last week’s concert was particularly outstanding as they presented guest artist, pianist Corin Parker, along with the concert band, in a presentation of Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue. What a wonderful composition and performance! Accolades to Ms. Parker and the entire band. Additionally, the performance of Leroy Anderson’s Bugler’s Holiday, featuring Ryan Braaten, Sam Grotte and Greg Weast, was just great.
I especially appreciated the overall selection of the music, including the two final numbers, selections from West Side Story and a Henry Mancini Spectacular. There could be no better way to end a band concert than with a rendition of Mancini’s Theme from Peter Gunn. That is, unless it was with the encore of Stars and Stripes Forever!!
Again, what a wonderful way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Thank you Gorge Winds.
