The trio of Tianna Ellis, Chloe Beeson and Kirsten Sorensen reeled off a combined eight kills, three aces and three digs and the No. 1-ranked Dufur volleyball team secured a three-game sweep over Sherman Tuesday in Big Sky Conference play at Dufur High School.
In this matchup, the Huskies kept the scores close for the opening two frames, but could not sustain that edge in taking back-to-back 25-16 losses to go down 2-0.
Dufur finally flipped the switch and cruised for a 25-7 margin in the third set for the sweep.
Montana Ferres had eight kills, three aces and seven digs, and Taylor Darden notched seven kills, six aces, three digs and a block. Sydney Reed had a kill, an ace, two digs and 19 assists.
One thing coach Darden wants to see improve are the sluggish starts.
“Today, I felt like we were just slow out of the gates,” coach Darden said. “We know that we have been slow out of the gates and we have been trying to work on that this season. I hope that we can get that taken care of soon or it will come back to bite us.”
For the Huskies, Makenzie Blaylock had seven kills, 10 digs and four aces to pace her team.
Janet Guzman tallied eight digs and five aces, Meagan McKinney doled out three blocks and Brittney Orendorff checked in with 14 digs.
“We left the match in a positive mood, knowing what we need to fix,” said Sherman coach Carrie Danchok. “We also know that everything that we do need to fix is fixable. We need to realize that those areas are little things that will have a huge effect on how we do down the road. As we go down through league, I know that those aspects will become more consistent.”
Sherman is at South Wasco County for a match at 5 p.m. Thursday. Dufur hosts Condon-Wheeler and St. Paul for consecutive matches starting at noon.
