White Salmon hosts honeybee event

The White Salmon Valley Community Library and Stevenson Grange 121 invite the public to join Melissa Elliot of Melissa Bees to learn about the importance of bees and other pollinators Saturday, Oct. 11 from 2 to 4:00 p.m. in the library’s Sprint/Baker Gallery.

Elliott will share key information on why bees and pollinators are in trouble and how individuals can help pollinators to thrive in their own home garden and landscapes by implementing organic horticultural methods.

The program is part of the ‘2014 Community Resiliency’ series organized by Stevenson Grange #121.

Honeybees are responsible for pollinating one-third of the food we eat including fruits, vegetables and nuts. Since 2005, the United States has experienced staggering bee losses. Honeybees and other essential pollinators are threatened due to loss of diversity and unsustainable landscape practices including the use of chemicals in agricultural and home gardening.
