SWC drops Horizon in 3

Riding high off their weekend tournament championship, the South Wasco County Redsides came on strong from the opening serve and wrapped up a three-game road sweep over Horizon in a Big Sky Conference volleyball match played in Maupin.

“I thought we played a solid match, covering the floor pretty well,” said SWC head coach Donna Barton. “We got in a good number of swings which is something we worked hard on last week and it was good to see it continue. We plan to work hard in practice this week and see if we can go to Condon Saturday and play up to our potential.”

The Lady Redsides set the tone in the first set with a 25-11, but then faced a determined Horizon in the second set where the margin was two points.

SWC tallied the final two points on the scoreboard to preserve a 25-23 win to send the match into the third-set finale.

There, the Redsides fired a 25-19 to get the win.

Baily Hogenkamp went 17 of 21 on her swings with 10 kills, had a block, a dig and converted all seven of her serves with an ace.

Ana Popchock had seven kills, four aces and four digs, Ally Muhleman added five kills, a dig and was good on 10 of 11 serve-receptions.

Madisen Davis reeled off four aces, Kyrsten Sprouse notched a kill, three aces and a dig, and freshman Jacqueline Noland chipped in a kill, four aces, two digs and went four of five on serve-receive.

“Ana Popchock had a good all-around game with several kills and some great saves and digs,” Barton said. “Baily and Ally Muhleman were strong on the net, with Jacqueline and Allie Noland setting.”

SWC (6-5 overall, 1-1 league) heads to Condon Saturday for a dual versus Condon-Wheeler and Mitchell-Spray with the first match set for noon.
