TD cheer clinic planned

The Dalles High School Cheerleading program is holding its annual youth cheer clinic from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 14 at the Wahtonka High School gynamsium.

This event is open for students from kindergarten-through-eighth grades.

There will be a halftime performance during The Dalles football game on Sid White Field.

Cost is $40 for early registration before Monday, Aug. 15 and fees qualify for a free T-shirt.

After Aug. 15, costs swell to $45, but a T-shirt is not guaranteed.

The camp includes instruction from TDHS cheerleaders and coaches.

Athletes will work on jumps, motions, cheer dances and the proper stunting techniques.

Gorge Gauntlet on tap

The Gorge Gauntlet is a chance for MCMC's Summer Sports Camp participants to showcase improved strength and agility through a variety of challenges and activities.

Fans and community members can come cheer on local athletes from all over the gorge as they compete head-to-head for the title of “Master of the Gauntlet” in an event scheduled to run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 13 on Amaton Field on the campus of The Dalles High School.

This is a fundraiser for the Mid-Columbia Health Foundation’s Level the Playing Field. All admissions are free, but donations are welcome.

Sponsors included Mark Cullen, MD of MCMC Sports Medicine & Orthopedic Surgery, Indian Creek Family Eye Care and Nelson Tire Factory.

Dufur Valley run scheduled

The upcoming Dufur Valley 5k and 10k run/Walk is scheduled for 8 a.m. on Saturday, August 13 in Dufur.

Registration opens on the day of the event at 6:50 a.m. and runs until 7:35 a.m.

Costs are $10 and kids under the age of 18 years can enter for $5.

Busses will transport all participants up Dufur Valley to the course starting points. The finish line is back at the high school.

Locker room and showers are available to all participants.

The Dufur Days parade and activities event will run at 10 a.m. downtown.

All proceeds raised go towards Dufur track.

Cross Country holding practices

The Dalles High School Cross Country program will continue workouts for next month for middle school, high school and students from St. Mary’s Academy.

The team is scheduled to meet at 5:30 p.m. every day from Monday-through-Friday at Sorosis Park in The Dalles.

Indoor soccer signups on tap

All athletes interested in joining the Columbia Gorge Indoor Soccer League are welcomed to stop by The Dalles Fitness and Court Club.

This is open to males and females of all ages and divisions.

All paperwork and fees must be paid before early September.

Aluminum Man event planned

The 28th annual Aluminum Man Triathlon and Duathlon on Saturday, Sept. 10 at Riverfront Park.

There are several division for athletes to compete in.

Athletes will swim, compete in a 10k run and follow with a 50k bike ride.

Cost to enter the duathlon, triathlon or the team event is $65 and fees qualify for a T-shirt.
