From the archives of The Dalles Chronicle
Gary Conley, Terray Harmon and Diana Ezelle contributed to this report.
Last week’s History Mystery, above, was scanned from a 4- by 5-inch negative from the archives of The Dalles Chronicle/Optimist. The envelope reads, “Union Pacific Station Addition, June 18, 1951, for Mid-State Construction Company. Negs 1 and 2.”
Gary Conley said that the depot was located in the area now occupied by the post office, although the depot was located closer to the railroad tracks. At left is a covered area known as the “team track,” where a spur ran into the covered area. “I worked there for 43 years,” Conley added, as an employee with Union Pacific.
Diana Ezelle remembers that it was used as an Amtrak stop.
A third negative, printed below, was also in the envelope: It’s subject remains a mystery.
