Bend’s big second quarter sinks TD

After averaging 35.6 points a game during a three-game losing streak at the recently completed Holiday Inn Winter Invitational Tournament in Wilsonville, The Dalles boys’ basketball team busted loose for 57 points in taking a 76-57 loss to Bend in a non-league hoops contest played at Kurtz Gym.

TD and Bend squared off for 15 points each in the opening quarter, but the Lava Bears hit six 3-pointers on their way to a 27-15 run in the second quarter to jump ahead 42-30 at the break.

In that span in the second quarter, Dakota Murr sank three 3-pointers and added a jumper, and William Justesen and Colton Walker had two points to help the team.

Behind 12 points in the third quarter, Colin Noonan helped lead TD with a nine-point surge and both Johnny Miller and Murr had two points each for a 13-11 rally to cut into the Bend lead, 53-43.

Although within contention, the Hawks could not inch any closer, as Bend had three players hit multiple field goals, led by Mario Mora’s nine points as part of a 23-14 run.

In all, Bend made good on 28 field goals, 11 from 3-point territory, and went 6 of 9 from the line.

Mora had 30 points, and teammates Beau Marchais and Elliot Willy added 11 points apiece.

For the Riverhawks, Murr had 20 points, just two in the second half, and Noonan finished with seven baskets for 18 points.
