It’s candy drive time in The Dalles

The Dalles Area Chamber of Commerce is collecting Halloween candy for businesses to pass out to children.

The candy drive is intended to help downtown retailers and service provider give children a safe trick-or-treating experience on Oct. 31 from 3 to 5 p.m.The Dalles Lions Club will supply crossing guards to make sure families can walk safely in intersections along Second, Third and Fourth streets.

Collection bins have been set up at Fred Meyer, Safeway, Grocery Outlet and Kmart for candy donated by community members. These bins will be picked up Friday so the candy can be prepared for distribution on Wednesday, Oct. 26.

Candy will also be given to Northern Wasco Park and Recreation to support Monsters in the Park after Dark, which follows trick or treating.

Monsters in the Park will be from 5 to 7 p.m. at City Park. There is no cost to attend and the event includes a costume contest, photo booth, DJ, relay race and Halloween fun.
