POW/MIA recognized Friday

Ceremonies will take place throughout the nation Friday, Sept. 16, for National POW/MIA (Prisoner of War/Missing in Action) Recognition Day, including a remembrance ceremony at Sorosis Park, 350 E. Scenic Drive, in The Dalles.

The program at 6 p.m., organized by the Mid-Columbia Veterans Memorial Committee, seeks to raise public awareness about the approximately 88,000 Americans who are unaccounted for since World War I. The 138,000 troops who were held as prisoners of war will also be honored.

For more information call Les Cochenour, president of MCVMC, at 541-298-5692, or Vandee Mauser, a member, at 541-993-4300.
