Accidents

Wasco County

Jan. 14, 5:36 p.m. – Single vehicle, non-injury crash, Highway 197 near milepost 9. A report was taken.

Jan 15, 2:30 p.m. – Single vehicle, non-injury crash, Highway 197 near milepost 56. Driver was heading south when they lost control of the vehicle due to weather. A report was taken.

Fire

Mid-Columbia Fire & Rescue

Jan. 14, 3:04 p.m. – MCFR dispatched to a report of a structure fire in the 500 block of West Seventh Street. Unit responded found a single story home with nothing showing, but a plastic trash can in front yard was half-melted. Homeowner said he disposed of woodstove ashes he thought were cold in the trash can, which later caught fire. Homeowner by then had extinguished the fire with snow.

Jan. 15, 4:33 p.m. – MCFR dispatched due to reported strong smell of natural gas or propane at the corner of 12th Street and H Street. Unit responding unable to detect any problem after going through several blocks of the area, including using a gas monitor device. Crew then returned to quarters.

Jan. 16, 6:48 p.m. – MCFR responded to the 800 block of East 10th Street on a report of a possible gas leak. Crew arrived to find a faint smell of natural gas in the garage. Levels were not high enough to alarm or register the air monitor. The pilot lights were inspected on gas appliances. Occupants were counseled on what to do if the problem continues or worsens.

The agency responded to seven calls for emergency services on Friday, ten calls on Saturday, five calls on Sunday, and eight on Monday.

Police Reports

The Dalles City

A report was taken Friday morning from the 300 block of West 11th Street on a dog attack that occurred on Jan. 10.

A caller at 11th and Garrison reported Friday morning a man using a snow blower put an enormous amount of snow into the street two days ago. The caller confronted the man, who dared him to call police.

The caller said he took two days to call police but finally did because he didn’t like the other man and feels he is a menace to society. Because of delay, officer could not determine where the snow was thrown.

A caller at 10th and Clark reported Friday morning seeing a male and female walking in the middle of the street arguing.

An officer found they were heading to the hospital and since the female was over seven months pregnant, the officer gave them a ride there.

Staff at the state office building reported Friday morning a client punched a wall because he was upset that his son was being placed in foster care.

A caller reported Friday morning her company leased a laptop to a man who has since died, and the facility where he died won’t release any information because of privacy laws.

The facility said the man didn’t live there, and suggested contacting another medical agency that was involved in his care. The caller was told it was a civil, not a criminal, issue.

A person came to the police department to report a case of identity theft Friday afternoon.

A caller reported a person she got in an accident with gave her false insurance information. Police called the suspect and left a voicemail in hopes of bringing it to a conclusion.

Richard Warren Mathewson, 48, The Dalles, was arrested and is accused of third-degree criminal mischief.

A man in the 1300 block of East 13th Street reported Friday evening his teen child was found with marijuana and he wanted an officer to respond.

Benjamin James Slusher, 32, The Dalles, was arrested Friday evening in the 1000 block of East 9th Street and is accused of probation violation.

A caller in the 900 block of Hostetler reported Friday night he was trying to enter a storage facility and his car got stuck in the snow and the facility gate came down and hit his car. He and the facility manager exchanged information.

A caller in the 1200 block of Pomona reported accepting a friend request from an unknown person on Facebook and was talking to her online and then he reported pictures from his phone are online and the woman has threatened to kill him if he doesn’t pay her $2,500.

The man was advised to block the suspect. He said he closed all his bank accounts and credit cards in fear the suspect would compromise them. He was told to speak to a detective during business hours for further guidance.

A report for sex crimes/rape was taken at the police department.

Devon Matthew Copher, 28, The Dalles, was arrested early Saturday morning in the 2000 block of West 7th Street and is accused of probation violation.

Dennis Wayne Ladoux, 61, The Dalles, was arrested Saturday afternoon in the 800 block of West 6th Street on a warrant for failure to appear.

Connie Louise Johnson, 59, The Dalles, was arrested Saturday evening in the 1200 block of West 6th Street and is accused of driving under the influence of intoxicants.

A caller in the 1300 block of Dry Hollow reported Saturday afternoon her home was broken into.

A mandatory reporter from California reported a teen in The Dalles is suicidal and their mom just makes fun of them and tells them to grow up.

The teen said a lot happens in their house but they can’t report it because they don’t want to go back to foster care. The matter was forwarded to detectives for review.

A caller reported Saturday evening a poorly parked vehicle in the 1700 block of East Ninth Street. An officer found it was at least five feet from the curb and the vehicle owner was cited for being too far from the curb.

A caller in the 300 block of West Eighth reported Saturday night a person staying at the house wanted a cigarette and when he didn’t get one he broke a bedroom door. She didn’t want police contact but wanted him held accountable.

A caller in the 3300 block of West Seventh reported someone was prowling around the backyard and took a dolly.

A caller in the 1600 block of Montana reported Sunday afternoon someone left a no parking sign with the police department’s phone number on the caller’s car.

His car was in his driveway. He said he wanted to know who put it there and why.

An officer found the sign appeared to be a store-bought sign and someone wrote in the department’s phone number.

Police responded to the 500 block of Mt. Hood Street Monday morning after an employee reported a customer turned in a forged prescription note. A report was taken and the incident is under investigation.

Zachariah James Hoyt, 24, The Dalles, was arrested Monday afternoon near Old Dufur and Morton streets and is accused of two counts of probation violation.

Steven Joseph Sprague, 45, The Dalles, was arrested early Tuesday morning at Lewis and Clark Park and is accused of probation violation.

Wasco County

A criminal mischief report was taken Friday afternoon from the 2700 block of East 12th Street.

Charles Lee Keller, 40, Mosier, was arrested Saturday morning in Mosier and is accused of contempt of court.

Gary Robert Gast, 59, Carson, Wash., was arrested Saturday evening near Highway 197 and Eightmile Road and is accused of false swearing and unlawful purchase of a firearm.

Joshua Aaron Aljaouni, 28, The Dalles, was arrested Saturday evening near East 3rd and Court streets and is accused of parole violation.

A search and rescue report was taken Sunday morning from Dufur after a caller reported they live in the high elevation and have run out of gas and propane. Subjects were located and one was taken to the hospital for cold exposure.

A criminal mischief report was taken early Monday morning from the 4100 block of Chenowith Road.

A theft report was taken Monday morning from the 3000 block of West 10th Street after a victim reported a firearm was stolen from his home.

Mandy Anne Caldwell, 29, Dufur, was arrested Monday evening in Dufur and is accused of unlawful possession of methamphetamine, first-degree criminal trespass, supplying contraband, and unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

Oregon State Police

Ethan Nathaniel Kaeo, 57, Springfield, was arrested Friday morning during a traffic stop on Interstate 84 eastbound, milepost 92 and is accused of offensive littering. He was also arrested on a warrant for failure to appear.

Robert Carter MacDonald, 64, Gladstone, was arrested Saturday evening during a traffic stop on Interstate 84 eastbound, milepost 80 and is accused of driving under the influence of intoxicants.

An agency assist report was taken Monday afternoon from the 1600 block of East 9th Street after assisting city police with a theft investigation.

Gilliam County

Marion David Thompson, 68, Arlington, was arrested Saturday evening in Arlington and is accused of first-degree sodomy and two counts of first-degree sexual abuse.
