AUGUST

FREE MUSEUM: Open every Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Wahtonka Campus, Archives of both D-12 and D-9 school districts. Celebrating over 160 years of education in The Dalles. Entrance nearest Athletic Fields.

ARTIST SERIES: Artist series, Abbey Phelps, knitting and fiber arts on display at the Sherman County Historical Museum in August. Blue Star Museum with free admission all month for active military personnel and families.

KIWANIS PROGRAMS: Kiwanis meetings are held every Thursday at noon at Spooky’s and visitors are welcome. No noontime meeting: 5:30 p.m. gathering at Sherry Munro’s home, 2500 E. 12th St. For more information go to www.thedalleskiwanis.org/.

FRIDAY PINOCHLE: Friday night Pinochle at the Mid-Columbia Senior Center, 1112 W 9th Street, The Dalles. Play begins at 6 p.m. New players and beginners welcome. Enter through the door on the 10th Street side. For more information contact the center.

ART WALK: Community event, art and vendors downtown Moro, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

SATURDAY BINGO: No Bingo will be held at the Mid-Columbia Senior Center, 1112 W 9th Street, The Dalles due to Labor Day. We will return next week.

Tuesday, Sept. 4

CHRISTIAN YOGA: Yoga classes every Tuesday, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Gateway Presbyterian Church, 1111 Dry Hollow Rd., The Dalles. By donation, proceeds benefit the mission fund. Information on Facebook, “Yoga for Christ,” or email janellwyatt@gmail.com.

Thursday, Sept. 6

Community Bible Study class for women and children from all cities in the gorge begins. Class meets 9:15 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, 3350 Columbia View Dr., The Dalles. The class will cover the book of Isaiah over 30 weeks. For more information email: jreed1513@gmail.com.

GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY: the Columbia Gorge Genealogical Society meets 10:30 a.m. at the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center. “The Elusive Dr. Brooks — Early Physician in Jacksonville and The Dalles,” a collaborated case study that was presented to the genealogical society, Wasco County Historical Society and Discovery Center Library last spring, will be presented by Sandy Bisset.

SATURDAY BINGO: Bingo at the Mid-Columbia Senior Center, 1112 W 9th Street, The Dalles. Doors open at 4 p.m. Bingo starts at 6 p.m. All ages welcome (children 12 to 18 years old must be accompanied by a legal guardian). New players encouraged to arrive by 5:30 p.m.

Saturday, Sept. 15

HISTORY RUN: The Wasco County Historical Society “Poker Run” begins with registration at Sorosis Park from 7 a.m.to 11 a.m. All motorized vehicles are welcome and the tour is all on paved roads. Poker hands are $10. There will be a $5 mileage guess:50/50. Prizes will be awarded 5 p.m. at Sorosis Park. The route includes Boyd, Dufur, Friend, Tygh Valley, Wamic, Maupin, Shaniko, White River Falls State Park and points in-between. Take the tour “on your own” or with a group. You will be met by Historical Society members at each stop to give you bits of history. For more information, call John Brookhouse at 541-980-0918.

GRAND OPENING: Cottonwood Canyon State Park celebrates the opening of new 1,500-square-foot education center, cabins and restroom facilities, a $2.5 million project. Tours 1 to 4 p.m.

DINNER and AUCTION: 47th annual Beef and Burgundy dinner and auction will be headlined by Congressman Greg Walden from 5:30 to 9:00 p.m. at The Shilo Inn.
