Clinic releases eagle to wild

After some hesitation, a young, bald eagle rehabilitated at Rowena Wildlife Clinic took advantage of the freedom offered to him May 7 and flew back into the wild. The 1-year-old male raptor was found April 15 at Avery Park near Wishram, Wash., unable to fly. An employee at the park contacted authorities at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at The Dalles Dam, who then called Rowena Wildlife Clinic in Rowena.

Ballots are due Tuesday, May 21

Ballots in the May 21 special district election are due at the Wasco County Courthouse by Tuesday, May 21, at 8 p.m. It is too late to safely assure mail delivery at this point, so ballots should be hand-delivered to the Wasco County Courthouse at 511 Washington St. A drop box on East Fifth Street outside the courthouse is available for convenience. Ballots may also be turned in at Maupin City Hall on Deschutes Avenue from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
