A penalty kick goal off the foot of Hermiston’s MaKayla Pacheco in the 51st minute gave the Lady Bulldogs all the offense they needed in a 1-0 victory Thursday in Hermiston. “We shut them down and didn’t make one mistake, everyone was on tonight, everyone stepped up, and everyone played their hearts out,” said TD head coach Oscar Nunez.
The Dalles volleyball team fired at will against Pendleton, jumping ahead 1-0 in the match after a 25-19 win. Over the next three sets, however, the No. 11-ranked Lady Buckaroos were dialed in to the tune of 25-15, 25-19 and 25-19 scores to pull off the four-set victory Thursday in Columbia River Conference action in Pendleton.
Dufur defeats No. 5 South Wasco County in four sets
DUFUR – When Mikayla Kelly is standing tall at the net, she has an ability to make momentum-changing blocks, change shots and frustrate opposing hitters. The 6-foot sophomore logged a career-high 10 blocks and the team totaled 17 for the match in No. 18 Dufur’s four-set home victory over No. 5 South Wasco County Thursday on senior night in Dufur.
The Columbia Gorge Basketball Academy will again be organizing traveling basketball teams for local boys and girls from the third-through-eighth grades with a tryout session slated to run from 12:30-3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 15 at The Dalles Middle School.
The Gorge Hoops Basketball is offering a one-day signup for its youth recreational league from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 18 at Wahtonka. If players are not signed by Oct. 18, they will be unable to participate in the league games, but if a player cannot make it, someone can attend in their place.
Team has shot at No. 2 seed with a win tonight at Hermiston
Addie Klindt made 15 saves in 50 minutes and Victoria Barragan put forth a solid effort in the middle in The Dalles girls’ soccer teams 5-0 loss Tuesday to No. 11-ranked Hood River Valley.
The South Wasco County Redsides have three games left on their schedule and head coach Mike Waine is looking to get his group back on the winning track. The first step toward that direction is at 1 p.m. Friday in Echo for a non-league football matchup versus Huntington.
No. 2-ranked Dufur on road versus No. 13 Arlington
In the second half last week against Sherman, the No. 2-ranked Dufur Rangers had their power running game running fluidly for 211 second-half yards on 21 rushes in a 54-22 victory. Now the Rangers, the state’s 10th-best scoring offense, contends with an Arlington-Condon defense that ranks first in the 1A class at 11 points a game (66 total points allowed).
The Dalles plays at Woodburn on Friday
For The Dalles Riverhawks, it all comes down to a three-game season for them to realize their goals of finishing with a winning record. The first battle comes at 7 p.m. Friday against Woodburn, a team that is 1-5 on the year and in the midst of a three-game losing streak. “I think they are ready,” said coach Steve Sugg on his team’s mentality ahead of Friday.

TD scores its first goal in four years against Eagles
In a four-year span, the matchup between Hood River Valley and The Dalles has been lopsided, with the Eagles outscoring the Riverhawks by a 40-0 margin in the past eight matches. Tuesday, The Dalles got a goal on the scoreboard by Alberto Gallegos at the 61-minute mark to tie the game at 1-apiece, but with eight minutes left in regulation, HRV’s Saul Chavarria scored the eventual game-winner on a penalty kick in No. 1-ranked HRV’s 2-1 road triumph.
With a chance to pull off the season sweep against Hermiston, The Dalles volleyball team led 2-1 in the match, but could not hold on, losing the next two sets in a five-set loss Tuesday in Hermiston. TD remains one game ahead of Hermiston for the third and final playoff slot.
Jacqueline Noland and Jada Myers were each a perfect 12 of 12 on serves, and the duo combined for 13 kills on 23 of 27 swings in No. 5 South Wasco County’s 25-17, 25-10, 25-12 three-set sweep over Ione Tuesday in Maupin. The sweep was the team’s fifth of the season.
Byers, Beeson drop nine kills each in victory over Sherman
MORO – The Dufur Rangers clamped down their No. 2 spot in the Big Sky conference rankings with a 26-24, 20-25, 25-12, 25-16 four-set road victory Tuesday night in Moro.

The Lady Huskies moved into fourth place, a half-game behind Ione, after posting an impressive three-set road sweep over Condon-Wheeler Friday in a Big Sky conference match played at Condon High School.
