The Dufur Rangers nearly let another lead slip away but made the shots and the clutch plays for a 17-6 fourth-quarter run to defeat Klickitat, Wash. by a 49-37 margin Tuesday on the road at Klickitat High School.
Jacob Hernandez scored a career-high 18 points, Josh Nisbet broke out for 13 and Henry Lee Muscled up for eight to lead the Riverhawks to a 62-46 win Tuesday at Kurtz Gym. Leading scorer Dakota Murr wound up with 15 points but dealt with some foul troubles.
Freshman hits tough to help Redsides beat Monument
MAUPIN – South Wasco County had their best all-around performance last week in a 36-34 loss to Powers, but it was a quick glimpse into some promise. The good play continued Tuesday, as Garrett Olson scored a career-high 28 points, 16 in the second half and pulled down 10 rebounds and had three steals to lead the Redside boys’ basketball team to a 40-28 win over Monument-Dayville in a hoops contest played in Maupin.
Just three days earlier, the Dufur Rangers were dealt a 38-point loss at the hand of Powder Valley. Tuesday, eight different players drilled field goals, led by the guard trio of Kayla Bailey, Alexus Outlaw and Zoe Hester, as the Rangers opened with a 20-8 cushion through one quarter and rode that outburst to a 50-40 victory over Klickitat, Wash. Tuesday in a girls’ basketball road contest.
The Dalles girls’ basketball team led for the first three quarters and held as much as a nine-point lead but missed 10 free throws, including two front-end free throw attempts in a 47-46 loss to Ridgeview Tuesday in Redmond.
Aided by a 32-17 spurt in second half, SWC scores 48-31 triumph
MAUPIN – SWC and Monument-Dayville played a gritty opening half, but the Lady Redsides expanded on their 16-14 lead with a 32-17 run in the second half to secure a 48-31 victory Tuesday in a non-league contest in Maupin.
Things could not be better for No. 1-ranked South Wasco County. In their 4-0 start, the Redsides are averaging nearly 51 points a contest and using a variety of weapons a nightly basis to turn the tide in games. Saturday against Powers, Abby Birman scored 15 of her season-high 19 points in the second and third quarters, as the Redsides finished the final three quarters of play on a 42-15 run to capture a lopsided 51-19 triumph Saturday at the Pacific Girls’ Basketball Tournament held in Port Orford.
Team using preseason to show steady improvement
DUFUR – At this point in the season, Dufur girls’ basketball coach Hollie Darden is using this time to get his young team some added experience and learning more about the offensive and defensive sets rather than worrying about wins and losses.

DUFUR – The Dufur Rangers had an eight-point halftime lead, and a 48-43 advantage entering the fourth quarter, but turnovers and rebounding spurred an 18-7 fourth-quarter rally by Powder Valley in a 61-55 boys’ basketball victory Saturday at Dufur High School.
With its size and athleticism, Pacific High School got off to a quick start and never looked back, as a 34-5 first-quarter lead paved the way for a 61-26 victory at the Pacific Crossover Boys’ Basketball Tournament Friday in Port Orford.
Rangers end up losing by a 63-35 final margin
A sluggish start by the Dufur Rangers opened the door for Ryan Patrick and the Damascus Christian Eagles to jump out to an 18-4 lead through one quarter in a 63-35 blowout win in non-league boys’ basketball action Friday at Dufur High School.
The South Wasco County Redsides moved up to No. 2 in the 1A rankings and kept their undefeated record intact following a 55-31 rout of Pacific Friday in opening-day girls’ hoops action at the Pacific Tournament in Port Orford.
Mikayla Kelly scored 13 points, Chloe Beeson tacked on eight and the No. 11-ranked Dufur Lady Rangers derailed an attempted Damascus Christian comeback with a 15-4 fourth-quarter run in a 45-31 win Friday at Dufur High School.
Hawks stay close for a half in a 53-23 home setback
Coasting through their first three games with wins over Centennial, Sandy and Columbia, the stakes were raised to a higher level in Friday’s non-league basketball game against 6A Glencoe. No. 10-ranked The Dalles fought valiantly through the first two quarters, down 16-12, but the Crimson Tide hit 13 second-half field goals and their trapping defense flustered the Riverhawks for a 37-11 run in a 53-23 girls’ basketball victory at Kurtz Gym.
