TD youth football camp set for Aug. 17

The Dalles Youth Football Camp is opening up registration for boys and girls from the first-through-eighth grades. The camp runs from 6-8:30 p.m. starting on Aug. 17 until Aug. 19 on Sid White Field on the Wahtonka campus.

Swim team makes waves at John Day Meet

The standout trio of Carter Randall, Maverick Varland and Lydia DiGennaro combined for four firsts, 11 seconds and two third-place finishes to lead The Dalles swim team at the three-day John Day Invitational Meet ending Sunday in John Day.

10U Stars leave state feeling optimistic

PORTLAND – As one of the wild card teams entering district and state action, The Dalles 10U Little League team made believers out of a lot of people. With a group of seven 10-year olds and six 9-year olds, and only three players with previous all-star experience, The Dalles captured a District 5 title and wound up with a 2-2 record at the Oregon State Championships for fourth place honors.

Late rally stuns TD in opener

In Saturday’s loss, Hollywood/Rose City, out of Portland, jumped ahead 6-1 through one inning, but The Dalles chipped away at the lead, finally getting as close as a 7-6 deficit with a three-run top of the fifth, capped by a three-run home run by Cates. Down by one run, TD still had the bases loaded and two outs, but could not get the tying run home.

Big start keeps TD’s year going

In Monday’s 12-5 victory over Del Norte, William Booth went 4 for 4 with four runs scored and four RBIs, Avery Schwartz added three hits, was hit by a pitch, scored a run and drove in another, and Sterling Coburn was 1 for 2 with a triple, two walks, a run scored and an RBI.

10U Stars pick up two wins to stay alive

PORTLAND – The Dalles Little League 10U All Stars were one inning from a perfect record and a semifinals berth. As it is, the Stars lost their opening game to Hollywood/Rose City by a 12-8 score on Saturday, but rebounded for consecutive lopsided wins over Ashland and Del Norte, Calif. by a combined 25-5 margin to inch a step closer to playing in Thursday’s championship rounds at the Oregon State Championships in Portland.

All Stars nab one win at regional tourney

Following three consecutive losses at the start of the Babe Ruth Regional Tournament, The Dalles’ 13U team finished out strong with a 9-7 victory over Meridian, Idaho on Friday, as TD jumped out to a 9-0 lead and the pitching duo of Brock LaFaver and Jace Troutman staved off a late rally to give their team its lone victory.

Standouts lead 14U squad to a National crown

Still with the bitter taste in their mouths from a runner-up finish at the ASA State Championships, the Troutdale Rainbows left nothing to chance last weekend in Newberg. The Bows amassed a perfect 8-0 record, capped by an 8-4 triumph against Seattle FC to capture first place at the 2017 NAFA Nationals 14U ‘B’ Championships, ending Sunday at the Crater Complex.
