Little League program aims to provide fun and rewarding atmosphere for local kids
For the past few years, Tammy Richman vowed to hang up her concessions apron for good. But, there are several forces pulling and tugging her back. Richman received recognition from The Dalles Little League board members for her 15 years of volunteerism and broke the seal on the 2017 campaign by throwing out the first pitch.
With the pressure rising, Maupin native Jason Hull stayed calm, cool and collected. Hull sank 22 of 25 free throws to defeat Armani Smith, Chatz Dollente and Christian Cordona at the Elk’s Northwest Regional finals held on March 11 at Clark College in Vancouver, Wash.

That is exactly what the Columbia Gorge Basketball Academy fifth-graders put forth in scoring four consecutive wins and a tournament title at the inaugural Gorge Hoops Invitational ending Sunday at The Dalles Middle School.
Sixth-grade group wins title game over White Salmon, 40-17
At a recent AAU tournament played in Hermiston, sixth graders from the Columbia Gorge Basketball Academy went winless in four games. This past Sunday at the Gorge Hoops Invitational, this group, coached by Ken Brock and Phil Hukari, left nothing to chance, going 5-0 with an average margin of victory of 19.6 points to capture championship honors.
Facing athletes from Baker to The Dalles, the local duo of Julie and Jason Hull, in middle, won their respective age divisions at the Elks Hoop Shoot District Free Throw contest held Sunday in Hermiston.
All levels shine bright at the state meet in Eugene
And the competition turned out to be tough indeed. Over 20 teams congregated in the Willamalane Sports Center in Eugene. Among them were the best compulsory-level gymnasts in the state of Oregon.

Sunday evening while at a Babe Ruth Softball board meeting to discuss future plans for the program, The Dalles Babe Ruth board members honored coach Dawn Marie Hert with a Volunteer of the Year plaque for her years of service and leadership to the organization.
