Buena (Faye) Whitesel was born May 20th, 1922 in Caldwell, Idaho. She was a resident of The Dalles for 55 years. She passed away December 2nd, 2013, age 91, at Cascade Senior Care, after a year of declining health.
Faye was the fifth of seven children to Louis and Buena (Orr) Freeman. Faye graduated from the University of Idaho in 1945. Known as Mrs. Whitesel to hundreds of students at Chenowith Elementary and Chenowith Middle School where she taught 3rd grade and Chenowith Middle School teaching 7th/8th grade English for 28 of her 33 years teaching.
Faye married Vern Whitesel November 2nd, 1946 in Moscow, Idaho. They met when Vern came home to Troy, ID after serving in the Sea Bees during World War II. They enjoyed 62 years together. After retiring in 1988, they wintered in Arizona and traveled to Alaska to fish. Faye didn’t really learn to fish until after she retired and often caught more than Vern. Faye loved her cats, flowers, gardening and reading, but most of all she loved being with her family.
Faye was preceded in death by her husband, Vern in July 2009, parents Louis and Buena Freeman, brothers Harold, Robert, and Ted Freeman and a sister Betty Lou. She is survived by her children; Barbara Weedman, husband Guy and children Erin and Jared of Moro, Oregon. Dale Whitesel, and is wife Diane, Spanaway, WA. Their son Chris Whitesel and his wife Julie of Bethel, WA. Michael Whitesel, his wife Daurice, son Daniel and daughter Karisa of De Moines, WA. Her sisters Lynn Stevens of Anchorage, Alaska and Donna Mahin Los Gatos, CA, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
It was Faye’s wishes to have friends and family contribute to Heart of Hospice, Cat Link, Home at Last, or the Rowena Baptist Church.
The family wishes to thank Heart of Hospice and Cascade Senior Care for all of their loving care they have shown Faye through her final days.
Services will be held December 14, 2013, at 11:30 am at the Rowena Baptist Church 5964 Highway 30. Private family Interment will be held after the service at the I.O.O.F 18th St. Cemetery The Dalles, OR.
