Edgar Harold Ashbrenner, 105 of The Dalles, Oregon passed away peacefully on December 9, 2013 at Columbia Basin Nursing Home in The Dalles. He was born on March 24,1908 in Vancouver, WA. He attended Vancouver High School and graduated from Adcox Auto and Aviation School in 1926.
In 1937 he started working for the Sp&S Railroad in Wishram, WA. He worked for the railroad for 36 years and then retired. After retirement he and wife, Laura, traveled to Europe, Hawaii, Mexico, the US Virgin Islands and Morocco. Ed also loved to golf, which he did until he was in his late nineties. Ed and Laura were members of Calvary Baptist Church in The Dalles for about 60 years.
Ed is survived by his wife of 76 years, Laura Ashbrenner, three children; Vern Ashbrenner (Jane; Janet Meader (Dan); and Marcene Mason (Pat). He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Jeff Elliott (Audrey); Jennifer Colvin (John); Jill Cameron (Bill); Kristen Johns (Gary); Robert Mason; Tami Mason; Erin Ashbrenner Manning (Ryan); David Ashbrenner; and numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
A memorial service for Ed will be held at Calvary Baptist Church in The Dalles at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 4th. Memorial donations may be made in Edgar’s name to Calvary Baptist Church, 3350 Columbia View Drive, The Dalles, Oregon 97058 or to Heart of Hospice in Hood River, Oregon.
