Alice Rhea Dahle, 93, with ties to The Dalles, Ore., died peacefully Dec. 16, 2012.
She was born Nov. 28, 1919, in Sussex, Wisc., the second daughter of Chester and Ethel Rhea Lingelbach. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she met her husband, Tom, with whom she spent 68 years.
They were longtime members of the Sons of Norway Lodge in Eugene, Ore. She and her husband, who died three years ago, traveled around the world, even to the end of the road in Norway, where he was tracking down family histories. She smoothed her family’s moves across country as she followed her husband’s career from Indiana to Michigan to Idaho to Wisconsin and finally to the University of Oregon.
In June her daughter helped her move to Maui, Hawaii, where she spent her last six months enjoying the warmth and beauty of the island, while living with her son and daughter-in-law.
She is survived by her son Tom and daughter-in-law Bonnie, and her daughter Jane and son-in-law Bill, grandchildren Scott Dahle, wife Mia, Jeff Dahle, Kelly Spiller, wife Valerie, and Tiffany Dawson, husband Doug, and great-grandchildren Kendrick, Keaton and Kyler Spiller, Sydney and Thomas Dawson, and step-granddaughter Alexis Gregorson.
A remembrance of her life will be in the spring. If you’d like to share a thought, email jane@nation
