Beverly Ann Coombs Bower, 56, passed away Thursday, January 24, 2013 at the Cottage in the Meadow, Yakima, Wash. after a courageous 20 year battle with cancer.
She was born on October 23, 1956, in The Dalles Oregon where she graduated from high school in 1974. During her school years she worked at The Dalles Cherry Growers, Gordon’s Men’s Store, Stadelmans and Dairy Queen. During summer breaks she was a tour guide with the Corps of Engineers at The Dalles Dam. She attended two years at the University of Oregon. She married Ron Bower in August of 1982 and they settled in Selah, Washington where she resided at the time of her death.
Bev worked at DSHS in Yakima for 27 years before retiring due to illness. She loved to garden, go camping, and spend time on the Oregon coast with her family. She was a member of the Selah Covenant Church and had many friends there.
The greatest joy in her life came with the births of her two sons, Nathan and Grant, and she enjoyed watching them participate in a variety of sporting events. Her husband Ron survives her, along with Nathan and Grant. The boys shared their love and support of her through the difficulties of her illness.
She is also survived by siblings: Frank (Cindy) Coombs of Graham, WA, Jehm (Chris) Roemer of Hood River, OR, Barb Jenkins of Portland OR, and Dudley Coombs of The Dalles, OR. Also surviving are her parents-in-law, Virgil and Marilyn Bower of Yakima, sister-in-law Emily (Clint) Sams of Othello, Wash. She was preceded in death by her father, Frank Coombs and mother, Marion Jean Carlson.
Bev was a loving wife, mother, and friend and will be deeply missed by everyone whose life she touched. “We love you to the moon and back...”
The family wishes to thank North Star Lodge and Cottage in the Meadow for their loving care of Beverly.
