Cinthy Bell, a longtime resident of The Dalles, Ore., died at home Tuesday, July 2, 2013, on her 99th birthday.
She was born July 2, 1914 to Leslie and Martha (Hines) Bell near Kent, Ore., in a little house on her father’s homestead. She attended Erskine Grade School, a one room country school near Moro, Ore. She completed the eighth grade in 1928 and graduated from Grass Valley High School in 1932 with the honor of having her name on the silver cup for being the best all-around girl. Her school day involved riding a horse and buggy and later driving a small truck for farm supplies.
She moved to The Dalles in 1955 and worked at the Columbia Park Home and later the Oregon Fairview Home.
She enjoyed flowers, gardening, sewing and various other projects. Her favorite programs were The Lutheran Hour, Jeopardy and The Lawrence Welk Show. She was a member of the Sherman and Wasco County Historical Society.
She was preceded in death by her older sister Pearl. She is survived by one cousin, Eileen Johnson of Rushford, Minn.
Graveside services will be Thursday, July 11, at 10 a.m. at the I.O.O.F. Threemile Cemetery.
