John Gayland Grant, 72, died at home with family July 7, 2013.
He was born Aug. 11, 1940, in Grandview, Wash., to Lee William Grant and Mary Ella (Dirks) Grant. He grew up in Mabton, Wash., and Grandview.
He was a longtime resident of The Dalles, Ore. He worked for the JH Baxter Tie Plant in The Dalles and for the Oregon Forestry Service.
He enjoyed fishing, old western movies, and music by Johnny Cash.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers Donald Lee Grant, William Stewart Grant, Robert Allen Grant, and Jack Richard Grant.
He is survived by his wife Rose Marie (Denault) Grant, two sons Michael Wade Grant, Boise, Idaho; Timothy Alan Grant, Boise; daughter Debora Ann (Chris) Boyd, Chandler, Ariz.; four grandchildren Casey Boyd, Dylan Grant, Brandon Grant, and Jacob Grant; two brothers Charles Ray (Patti) Grant, Swan Lake, Mont.; David Thomas (Sandy) Grant, Harrison, Idaho; two sisters Elnora Mae Key, Yakima, Wash.; Mary Lee (John) Jackson, Portland, Ore.; and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life is planned July 11 from noon to 3 p.m. at the Eagles Lodge in The Dalles.
