Luella Carroll Darnielle Roberts, 76, a resident of The Dalles, Ore., died Monday, July 22, 2013 at a local care center.
She was born Sept. 3, 1936, in Blooming, Neb., the second of five children to Ward and Luella (Ward) Carroll. She was raised and educated in the Camas and Vancouver, Wash., area and The Dalles, Ore., graduating from The Dalles High School in 1952.
On Jan. 14, 1953 she and Ronald Clark Darnielle were married and together they raised six children and four foster children. Her husband died in 1991. On Nov. 19, 1994 she and Elmer Joseph Roberts were married. He died in 2007.
She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, sewing and playing bingo and Farmville.
She is survived by her children, Linda Darnielle and partner, Irrigon, Ore.; Ronald Darnielle and his wife Susan, Bobbi Darnielle Radcliffe and her husband Mike and Sandra Darnielle Arnold, all of The Dalles; her brothers Samuel Carroll, South Carolina; and Dwayne Carroll and his wife Gerry, Hermiston, Ore.; a sister, Clarice Stevens and her husband Bob, Baker City, Ore.; 16 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and two great-great-granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her first and second husbands, sons Harry and James Darnielle, brother Richard Carroll, son in law Douglas Arnold and grandson Dougie.
Graveside services will be Saturday, July 27, at 11 a.m. at the IOOF Threemile Cemetery. A celebration of life reception will follow at 12:30 p.m. at the Eagles Lodge. Visitation will be Friday, July 26, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home and Saturday from 9 to 10:30 a.m.
