Harriet Margaret Mathis, 89, a longtime resident of The Dalles, Ore., died Saturday, July 27, 2013, at a local care center.
She was born March 17, 1924, in Philadelphia, Pa., the oldest of three children to Arthur and Harriet (Sterling) Bradbury. She was raised and educated in Frackville, Pa., graduating from Frackville High School in 1942.
She married Harold L. Zeigler in 1942. He died in 1986. In 1990 she and William Mathis were married in Atco, N.J. He died in 1997. She resided in Camden, N.J., for 40 years, The Dalles, Ore., for 30 years, and Maupin, Ore., for the past year. She was a member of the United Church of Christ Congregational in The Dalles, Mid-Columbia Senior Center and the Good Sam Club of The Dalles. She enjoyed playing cards, dancing, walking St. Mary’s track, camping with Good Sams Club and tending her rose garden.
She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Cohen and her husband Mark, son Robert Zeigler and his wife Elaine, and Kenneth Ziegler, all of New Jersey; brother Les Bradbury and his wife Diane, Wamic, Ore.; nine grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first and second husband, son Wayne Zeigler and brother Robert Bradbury.
Memorial contributions may be made to The Dalles Senior Center, Memorial Fund of Canyon Rim Manor or the Heart of Hospice Foundation.
Services will be held at a later date. Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
