David Henry Pink, The Dalles, Ore., died peacefully at his family home May 16, 2013.
He was born Dec. 17, 1924 in Buffalo Center, Iowa, son of John and Essie Pink. He grew up on the family farm, graduated from Buffalo Center public school, and entered the United States Army in 1941, serving in the Pacific theater in World War II, stationed in the Philippines. He was honorably discharged in 1946 and returned to Iowa to study pharmacy at Iowa State and the University of Iowa.
He met Barbara Creighton of The Dalles while visiting his sister in 1950. They were married Aug. 24, 1951, in The Dalles and were together until his passing.
After a brief time in Iowa, they purchased property on Orchard Road in The Dalles in 1954, where David devoted the rest of his life to work and family.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Pink, The Dalles; son, Casey (Jody) Pink, The Dalles; daughter, Joan (Abdolreaza) Chaichi, Beaverton, Ore.; daughter, Dorothy (Al) Doyle, Bainbridge Island, Wash.; grandchildren, Joshua (Ammy) Pink, The Dalles; Jenny Pink, Portland, Ore.; Farrah Chaichi, Beaverton; Ryan Chaichi, Beaverton; Dustin Heins, Bellingham, Wash.; Brenton Heins, The Dalles; great-grandchildren, Skylar Conklin and Gabe Pink, The Dalles; sister, Helen Pink, Odgaard, Algona, Iowa; niece, Dorothy Meehan, Algona; nephew, David (Sharon) Bonn, St. Helens, Ore.; nephew, John Waterman, Seattle, Wash. He was preceded in death by his mother, father and sisters Dorothy Pink Zager, Burlington, Iowa, and Vivian Pink (Ted) Betels, Cherokee, Iowa; and brother-in-law Art Odgaard, Algona, Iowa.
Services celebrating his life will be Thursday, May 23, 1 p.m., at Life in Christ Center, 3095 Cherry Heights Rd, The Dalles. Dr. J. W. Jepson, senior pastor, will officiate. Memorials may be made to Meals-on-Wheels, 1112 W 9th St, The Dalles, OR 97058.
