William “Bill” P. Somers, 76, a longtime resident of The Dalles, died Sunday, October 27, 2013 after a long illness.
He was born in Nunda, New York, 1937, one of seven children to Charles F. Somers and Dorothy A. Riesenberger. He grew up in Nunda, where he attended Nunda Central School and graduated in 1956.
He married Catherine A. (Barry) Carroll on June 11, 1966. He was a technician at Eastman Kodak Company in Rochester, NY until his retirement in 1992 when they relocated to Oregon. He worked as grounds keeper and maintenance for St. Peter Catholic Church in the The Dalles.
He is survived by his stepchildren, Craig P. Carroll, Jr. and wife Molly, Mary Ann (Carroll) Hoiaas, Diana L. (Carroll) Gibbs and husband William, Juanita L. (Carroll) Martin and husband Kelly, Kelly C. Carroll; 20 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters Joseph and Lynn Somers, Peter and Elizabeth (Somers) Gilbert, Mary Ann Somers-Walker, John and Veronica Somers, Mel and Teresa (Somers) Ratzlaff and pre-deceased by brother Charles P. Somers and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held on November 16, 2013 at 1 p.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church.
