Mildred Marie (Zeller) Powell joined her beloved "Mr. Eddie" in heaven on October 25, 2013. She was born July 31, 1919 in Pottawatomie County, Kansas, the fourth child of Valentine and Teresa Zeller. She attended parochial grade school and following high school graduation was employed four years as a bookkeeper and stenographer at the Wamego, Kansas First National Bank. The following Spring the young couple pulled a travel trailer 1,984 miles to Bremerton, Washington where Ed welded alongside 13,000 others at the Navy Shipyards.
When WW II ended, the Powell Family moved to Redmond, Oregon; and then relocated to The Dalles in 1954 so the children could attend Catholic school. Ed and Mildred, and in recent years, Joe Powell have owned and operated Ed Powell Welding Service in The Dalles.
Mildred focused her life on her family; she was a loving wife and mother of nine children, an excellent cook and a great encourager of her children and family members. She provided in-home childcare and ironing, sold eggs and cream, and gifted many friends and neighbors with her wonderful cinnamon rolls and homemade baked goods. She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and St. Barbara's Circle and very supportive of St.Mary's Academy.
