Sidney “Sid” Maurice Johnson, 89, a resident of The Dalles, Ore., died Sunday, Sept. 1, 2013, at a local care facility.
He was born Dec. 31, 1923, in Clarkston, Wash., the second of three children to Roy and Zona (Mills) Johnson. He was raised and educated in Kendrick, Idaho, graduating from Kendrick High School in 1943. He attended Washington State University. On May 25, 1959, he and Golda Lockhard were married in Stevenson, Wash. He served in the US Army during both World War II and the Korean War.
He lived in various places before moving to The Dalles, Ore., in 1969. He worked as an aircraft mechanic, retiring from Columbia Helicopters. He enjoyed flying and restoring aircraft and was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association.
He is survived by his wife Golda; son Mark, Portland, Ore.; daughter Monica Pickett and her husband Cory, San Diego, Calif.; and their children Morgan and Devin; a sister Anita Lipka, Cle Elum, Wash.; two nephews and eight nieces and their families.
He was preceded in death by his father Ray Johnson, mother Zona and a brother Alan.
