Virginia Helen Metteer, a former longtime resident of The Dalles, died Sept. 2 in Parker, Colo., of complications of old age. She was 93.
She was born on Aug. 13, 1920, in Los Angeles to John and Ruby (Morgan) Fagan. She graduated from high school in Los Angeles and moved to The Dalles shortly thereafter. She married Eldon Metteer on Aug. 22, 1941, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church. They lived in The Dalles until the early 1970s, when Eldon’s job with Union Pacific Railroad required a move to Portland. They moved to Parker, Colo., in 2007.
Virginia was employed in The Dalles as a bookkeeper by Stadelman Fruit Co. and Hudson House wholesale distributors. She was an active member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and was known for her great sense of humor, wisdom and devotion to her family.
She is survived by her husband, Eldon, of Parker, Colo.; son Stephen of Parker, Colo., and his children Brian and Michelle; son Christopher, also of Parker, Colo., his wife Deborah and their children Michelle, Michael and Stephen; and son John, of Des Moines, Wash., and his children Kristin and Tamara; 13 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Mary, of Ahwahnee, Calif.; and a brother, John, of Prineville.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, at Lincoln Meadows Senior Living in Parker, Colo. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary of Littleton, Colo.
