Gloria Jean (Smith) Parker, 72, of The Dalles, Ore., died May 7, 2013, of natural causes.
She was born in New London, Conn., on April 20, 1941, to Raymond and Doris Smith, the oldest of seven children. She grew up in Mystic, Conn.
She moved to the Columbia Gorge area in 1989 and went to Columbia Gorge Community College to get her GED. She continued her education to get an associate’s degree in special education. She worked as a special education assistant in The Dalles schools.
She loved teaching and doing things with her family.
She is survived by brothers Raymond Smith and Eddie Smith; sisters Kathy Affinito, Donna Esponosa and Deloris Coffin; her children Vicky Allen, Sonia Sanchez, William Gutierrez, and Amanda Sanchez; her grandchildren Troy Sanchez, Joshua Allen, Jessica Welborn, Rebecca Gregg, Laura Allen, Kali Farger, Izabella and Mia Gutierrez, and Adriana Fuentes-Sanchez; eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son Jason Boughton, son-in-law Dennis B. Allen, her first husband Clifford Moore, a grandson Jerome Hosington, and her brother Thomas Smith.
A private memorial service for family will take place at a later time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either The Dalles Meals on Wheels or Portland Shriners Children’s Hospital.
