Harold M. ‘Hal’ Birge, a resident of The Dalles, Oregon died at home Tuesday, July 29, 2014. He was 71 years of age. Harold was born February 5, 1943 in Deer River, Minnesota, the
third of five children to Jesse and Tallie (Gjertson) Birge. He was raised in Backus, Minnesota for the first eight years and then The Dalles for the remaining years until graduating from
The Dalles High School in 1962. He then enlisted in the US Navy serving in Vietnam on the U.S.S. Herbert J. Thomas. Hal owned and operated a moving van company for several years and then worked on the pot line at the aluminum plant. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and the Eagles and Elks Lodges. Harold enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching
The Dalles Girls Softball and spending time with his nieces, nephews and family.
He was preceded in death by his father and beloved mother.
Harold is survived by his sister Maryann Haas and her husband Frank; brothers Robert Birge and his wife Sharon; Douglas Birge and his wife Susan and Jesse Birge and his wife Kim. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at 1:00 PM at Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home. Interment with military honors will follow at the I.O.O.F. Threemile Cemetery.
