Gerald Alan Scholtes (Jerry) passed away peacefully at his home in Portland, Oregon on January 7, 2014, after a four year battle with lung cancer. His long-time companion, Artice Geary, was at his side.
He was born in The Dalles, Oregon on August 26, 1953 to Frank T. Scholtes (deceased) and Norma J. Scholtes. He attended The Dalles High School and graduated in 1971. He then attended Lane Community College and the University of Oregon.
During his working years he worked at several jobs-in Alaska for Bumble Bee Seafoods, around Oregon as a professional gardener, in San Diego, Ca. building swimming pools and as a warehouseman for Pacific Power & Light Co. in Portland, Oregon. In his spare time he loved to sing and write music. He played the piano and guitar.
He was a kind and loving man and will be missed by his friends and surviving family - mother, Norma J. Smith of Eugene, Oregon, sister, Leilani Norman of Eugene, Oregon and companion, Artice Geary of Portland, Oregon.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Columbia Portage Grill in the Shilo Inn in The Dalles, Oregon at 2pm on Saturday, January 18, 2014.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Compass Oncology, Legacy Emanuel Hospital, Good Samaritan Hospital and Norco for the compassionate care they gave Jerry.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that you make a contribution to the American Cancer Society.
