Ardis M. (Kelly) Gustafson, 99, a resident of The Dalles, passed away on Saturday, April 26, 2014.
Ardis M. Gustafson was born in The Dalles, on March 13, 1915 the daughter of Louis James Kelly and Alice (Hillgen) Kelly. She had one brother, Raymond (RHL) Kelly who preceded her in death.
She attended primary and high school at St. Mary’s Academy here in The Dalles, and graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in 1934. Ardis married Oscar William (Tot) Gustafson on October 2, 1935 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church. They had a family of five children, Edwin Louis, Alice Anne, Marie Elizabeth, Stephen James and Oscar William. Her husband (Tot) died of a heart attack on April 14, 1946. Ardis dedicated the next 20 years at home raising her children and involving herself in their school and church activities.
After seeing her family out on their own she became active in many civic and church activities. She enjoyed her working days at Lance Apparel, her many Bridge Clubs and her church Altar Society Circle activities. One of her special joys was the work she involved herself with at St. Peter’s Landmark. She worked for many years as a volunteer and served on the Landmark Board from 1971 until 2007, loving every minute of her time spent there.
The core of her entire life was her deep faith. She worked tirelessly for her church, working with Evelyn Cole Matson to establish Friday Eucharistic Adoration in the Church, and taking an active role in the leadership of several prayer groups and committee assignments. Her love for her faith and her family was the heart and soul of her life.
She is survived by her children, Ed Gustafson (Barbara), Alice Anne and Marie, Stephen, Bill (Kathy). Grandchildren; Scott, LeAnne, Stephanie (Nate), Adam (Natalie), Laura (Jeff), Emile (Mike), Josh (Brandi) and three great-granddaughters, Madalia, Kathyrn and Rebecca.
