Antonio (Tony) Barajas of Rufus, OR passed away September 8, 2014, in The Dalles.
He was born August 30, 1987, in Goldendale, WA, to Cheryl Wason. He grew up in the loving community of Rufus.
He met the love of his life, Mariah Kirkpatrick in the 3rd grade. They began dating in 2010 and were married on August 2, 2014. He graduated from Sherman High School in 2006.
He is remembered for his one of a kind smile and his unique ability to make anyone his friend. He was constantly putting the needs of others before himself and his biggest concern was never how he was feeling, but always how everybody else was.
Tony loved shooting guns, going on adventures, his dogs, and his friends and family more than anything.
Tony was diagnosed with cancer in 2011, and despite every possible treatment option and prayers, was unable to overcome this terrible disease. His sheer determination, willpower, and stubbornness (completely genetic) was a force to be reckoned with. He was a fighter in the best sense of the word. He tackled every situation head-on and always with a positive attitude, and his million dollar smile. He was an incredibly hard worker, and was a ranch hand for both Morgan & Sons and Pat & Lori Beers, where he prospered.
Everyone loved Tony. It's easy to love someone who is so full of happiness and can always make a bad day into a good one. He never wavered in his love for others and is a prime example of how we should all live our lives.
Although he is gone, he has left a legacy that will always be remembered with love. There was no one like him, and we are all better for having known him.
Tony is survived by numerous loved ones, including the love of his life, his wife Mariah Barajas, his mother and stepfather Cheryl Wason and Jack McCormack, his mother and father-in-law Matt and Melissa Kirkpatrick, his siblings (both biological and honorary) Cory John and his wife Autumn Breeze, Alfonzo Allen and his wife Heidi, as well as Reuben, Eugene, Adrian Allen, and brother-in-law Andy Black. His grandmother Edna Wason, his aunts and uncles Caryl Wason, Cindy Wason and Bill Ortega, Karen and Dave Cunningham, and Craig and Alicia Wason, as well as his cousins; Jessica Wason, Connie Ortega, Kattie David, and Chelsie Cunningham, Mikayla Wason and Emma and Jaycob Aguas.
Tony is preceded in death by his sister Christina Black, nephew Kyle Barajas, cousin Jason Prindel and his grandfather Alan Wason.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Celilo Cancer Center, who took great care of Tony and our family during his battle with cancer.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, September 13th, 2014 at the Calvary Baptist Church in The Dalles at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Scott Holliday will be officiating. There will also be a potluck reception in the banquet room of the church following services.
