Bill Durst was born to William Leroy Durst and Ida Amelia (Drucker) Durst, of Iowa City, Iowa, on August 25, 1941. He is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Shirley McCoy; and his son, Daniel Durst.
He will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Kathi Durst, of The Dalles, Ore., and his children; Jeffrey Durst, of Beaverton, Ore.; Tamara Healea, of Seattle, Wash.; Theresa Durst, of The Dalles, Ore.; and his 4 granddaughters, Alexandra, Brittany, Tabitha, and Lindsey.
He leaves behind siblings and friends; Delores and Bill Haggerty, Auburn, Wash.; Helen and Donald Hicks, Pillager, Minn.; Connie and Roger Simpson, Kennewick, Wash.; and Everett and Kathleen Durst, Vancouver, Wash.
He was 9 years old when his family moved from Iowa to Dufur, Ore. His childhood and education took him into the U.S. Navy where he served onboard the U.S.S Hector 1959 to 1962. He then returned to The Dalles to take after his father, and begin a career with Stan Betty and Virgil Sharp as a concrete finisher. He later started B & R Concrete, with friend and partner, Richard Prentice. Throughout his life and 30 plus year career, he made many life-long friendships; some on the river bank, some in the woods, some on the sidewalk, and some on the local stool. Where ever the connection, you were greeted with a stoic, strong man, who had little to say and a sparkle in his eye! He was a husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He is truly loved and will be greatly missed. "Cheers Billy!"
A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
