Our dear beloved mother, Joan Gates-Shannon passed away peacefully with her family by her side on March 20, 2015. She was born on December 2, 1930 to Arthur and Lorna Howard in Portland, Ore. She was preceeded in death by her first husband, Leonard Gates in 1998 in The Dalles, Ore. She then met her second husband Jack Shannon with whom she married and moved from The Dalles to Orondo, Wash. Jack was a loving husband and faithfully cared for her until her recent death. Joan was devoted to her family and spent much of her life with her five grandchildren and her three children. She spent over 20 years as a Teachers Aid for the first grade at Dry Hollow Elementary School in The Dalles.
She is survived by her second husband Jack, and her three children: Dave Gates (Susan) of Portland, Ore.; Dian Prentice (Dan) of Chelan, Wash.; Dan Gates (Barb) of Portland, Ore. And five grandchildren: Jenni Langley (Steve), Morgan Gates, James (JD) Gates, Justin Peterson and Ryan Peterson.
Our mother was such a special gift in our lives, she truly demonstrated what it meant to love unconditionally. We also are so blessed to have so many happy memories growing up and into our adult lives. Though she is in Heaven with our Lord, she will live in our hearts forever, no day shall pass without thoughts of her.
