Michael Edward Morris was born in Eugene, Ore., on June 21, 1946 to Joyce Adaline (Eslinger) and Frank Allen Morris. His childhood days were spent in Bandon, Ore., until venturing off to college at Oregon State University where he majored in Music Education.
On June 8, 1968, Michael married his high school sweetheart Phyllis Ann Howard. Mr. Morris was a gifted musician and teacher, his career as an educator taking him across Oregon and Washington to schools in Culver, Mapleton, Myrtle Creek, La Pine, Lyle and Westport. During the summer months, he blended his love of the ocean with business and made a living on his own boat as a commercial fisherman. Always excited by possibilities, Michael loved inventing and entrepreneurship. His hobbies included computer programming, designing, researching, and working outdoors around his own home. With an enduring passion for music, he kept the guitar and trumpet handy to express his talents through his favorite instruments.
Michael Morris passed away peacefully in his home in The Dalles, Ore., surrounded by his family, on August 2, 2015. He will be deeply missed by his wife Phyllis Morris of The Dalles; daughters and sons-in-law Heidi and William Byers and Kimberly and Joshua Cox, all of The Dalles; sister and brother-in-law Patti and Dave Lawson of Graham, Wash.; brother and sister-in-law David and Sue Morris of Tillamook, Ore.; and grandchildren Ashton, Annah, Mia, Shelby, Keaton, Adalee and Liam; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service to celebrate his life was held on Friday, August 7, 2015 at 2 p.m. at Gateway Presbyterian Church in The Dalles, Ore.
