Duane Elmer Anderson, 87, a resident of The Dalles, Ore., passed away November 12, 2015 at a local hospital.
Duane was born in Fergus Falls, Minn., on October 8, 1928 the eldest of three children to Oscar and Christine (Fredeen) Anderson. He was raised and Fergus Falls and attended school there. He joined the U.S. Army in 1946 and was honorably discharged in 1948.
He came home, met and married Bernice Evelyn Cichy on April 9, 1949. Duane and Bernice moved out west in 1951 to work on The Dalles Dam and McNary Dam as a carpenter. He later also worked as a roofer and also driving truck and again carpentry with The Dalles Cherry Growers. Duane enjoyed camping, fishing and boating with his family and friends. He also raced go carts and was involved with Little League Baseball.
After he retired in 1990 Duane and Bernice bought a motorhome and wintered in Mexico and later Yuma, Ariz., making many friends. They also enjoyed friends here in The Dalles and went camping, travelling and skiing. They had three children and spent a lot of time with them and their twenty-four grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Christine, his brother Dale, his sister Ruth, his wife Bernice and his son Michael.Duane is survived by his daughter, Susan Felt and her husband Will, his son Bill Anderson and his wife Deede; twenty-four grandchildren and great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial service to be held Saturday, December 5, 2015 at 1 p.m. at Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home.
